Living in a Dorm
I entered college extremely nervous about living in the dorms. I have never had a roommate for more than a week during summer camps, I have always had my own private bathroom, and I have always had a quiet house I could fall asleep in. I knew going to live in the dorms I would say goodbye to all those luxuries.
If I'm being honest, living in a dorm is not that bad. I adjusted to the new living situation pretty quickly. My roommate is great especially since when we first met I told her I wasn't planning on being an athlete, but that changed within 5 days of us moving in.
I love my dorm room. My roommate and I wanted our styles to compliment each other so we agreed to a color scheme and then customized our sides of the room accordingly. I used grey and marble print as my base and have gold accents.
Joining the Swim Team
The biggest thing that has happened to me in college is my choice of returning to competitive swimming. I swam during my first two years of high school, but then I decided my junior year to leave my team. That was a difficult choice for me, but I'm so happy I'm back in the sport.
Rejoining swimming was terrifying for me. I called my best friend, my parents, and asked some of my new friends if I should really try out for the team. I'm so thankful they all pushed me to do it because I cannot be happier.
The transition back to swimming was tough and I knew this time I would do everything differently than before. I am much more positive during practice and meets. I feel more connected with my team and I honestly don't know what I would do without them.
Time Management
I knew coming into college that my time management skills were going to be tested like never before. The first week of class I quickly realized how much I was going to have to manage. That week was probably the toughest week even though I heard it was going to be the easiest. Long Story Short: thank god for planners.
Once I mastered managing my time, establishing my study habits was the next toughest task. All of my note taking styles in high school were completely useless. It also didn't help that all of my professors have different teaching styles. I felt like I was drowning in notes that I didn't know how to take.
Joining swim team actually helped me establish a routine so much. I quickly adjusted to my new limited free time. It was a tough transition, but taking time to plan out my week every Sunday always saves me.
Missing Home
I am typically not someone who gets homesick, but college definitely has made me miss my family quite a few times. During October I was able to come home for a long weekend and it was so refreshing.
I missed my Dad's home cooked meals the most. My school's cafe doesn't compare to any of my Dad's meals. While its nice that sushi is offered daily for lunch and dinner; I craved sushi from my favorite restaurant. The waitress who always serves us was excited to see I was home. That made the weekend even more enjoyable.
If you have a dog and you're in college then you'll understand how adorable and cute it is when they finally see you. Tanner, my chubby beagle, was so excited that he ran around our house howling and jumping up at me the second I walked in the door.
Now the real question is: will this blog survive? Or will I keep saying I'll upload posts, but never do? Honestly I don't know, but I do miss blogging. I will make a disclaimer right now: Grades > everything else especially blogging. SO...I will see you for my next post :) whenever that will be
