1. Don't Wait Until the Night Before to Pack
To pack for college is a big thing, you're basically packing your life away. I waited until the night before to pack everything which was a big mistake! I almost forgot to pack my shoes! I would have only had the flip flops that were on my feet at the time. So start packing a week before move-in day, I know that sounds really early. If you pack a few things each day then by the night before move-in you'll be all done and still have time to pack those tiny random things you would forget.
2. Ship Big Items to Your Local Bed Bath & Beyond
My mom and I went into Bed Bath & Beyond on their college night to look at items and purchase them. Bed Bath & Beyond has this cool service that allows you to make a registry of all the items you want for your dorm room then sends those items to the closest Bed Bath & Beyond by your school. I put my mattress topper and some storage items on my registry then on move-in my mom & I went to pick up my items! It was super simple and easy, very helpful too!
3. Buy a Huge Trunk to Move Clothes/Other Items
My one friend recommended to me to buy a huge plastic trunk to move in all my clothes. I bought mine from Walmart for only $20! Mine has wheels on one side so you can roll it along with you instead of carrying the whole trunk! I was able to fit all of my clothing in it perfectly! My case is now and deep so I could really pack a lot of clothes in it. I 10/10 recommend because it made moving so easy. When I moved out I used it to carry basically everything besides my clothes and it still made the process so convenient.
4. Buy Your Snacks/Food at Your School's Local Grocery Store
I always kept snacks in my dorm, but I waited until I was at my school to do so. I know my school does this thing with Target where the Target closes early and only lets in students so they can buy any last minute items they forgot at home or found out they needed. My friend who goes to school way south of where we live also had this same experience! So waiting to buy your food and any items you forget it worth it.
5. Remember to Breathe
Move-in day is SUPER busy especially if you're a freshman. There are so many kids with their families and their belongings trying to get to their dorm to move in and there are orientation leaders who are going to be telling you where you need to be - it's a lot. Just remember to take a deep breathe and focus on one thing at a time. I know I was flustered with moving in because my roommate and I were rearranging my room while trying to unpack before we had to go somewhere to begin orientation. You don't have to be fully unpacked by the end of move-in day. I know I wanted to be, but I was in such a time crunch that I gave up on that idea haha!I hope these tips help you in some way if you're moving into college! My dorm room went through so many changes because my roommate and I kept changing our minds on what layout we wanted so here are the numerous pictures of my freshman dorm!
